Nature-Based Therapy

Nature as Co-Therapist

Something novel happens when we step outside and into our natural environment; there are trees and earth, no walls, sky above us, and our eyes can wander in any direction - near and far, shifting the way we see and perceive things. EcoTherapy, or Nature-based Therapy, are far more than a walk in the park, nature herself steps in as co-therapist, adding immense value to your experience.

FAQs

  • Each client can choose whether to be inside or outside for each session. If the weather suddenly changes, like it can in our area, we can easily shift the location to phone call or the office, when available. Some clients like hot sun, some a light drizzle, others enjoy very fair weather only.

  • You can always request a preferred location. Each day's schedule might include teletherapy sessions, in-office sessions, or outdoor locations. The available locations depend on the daily schedule and drivability (traffic), as well as capacity of both participants (you and your therapist).

  • Great question! It's important to bring water or another way to stay hydrated, proper footwear and clothing for the location and weather, such as sunglasses and/or a hat for eye protection, sunscreen or a sun layer for protection, waterproof shoes or boots for muddy/damp days, and so on. Some people opt to bring a journal, as well.

  • Absolutely. We can bring nature inside in so many ways. Literal, symbolic, with images, and more. I keep a bowl of rocks, smooth sticks, and other nature objects in my office for contemplation, interaction, and more. Maybe you want to add to the list of what to bring to include photos of nature you connect with or something elseyou hold dear.
